Getting away from the hurried frenzy of life with kids even if it’s for a short while is on every parent’s wishlist. Whether you’re a procrastinator or a planner, looking for the perfect vacation spot where there’s plenty to do for both adults and kids requires meticulous research. To make this seemingly overwhelming task a tad easier, here’s a list of some rather unique unique but family-friendly places that you should consider this season.
1) Beach getaway
Sri Lanka has managed to make its way to every travel hotlist in the last few years. With several flights from Dubai every day and a whole host of beach hotels, eco villas and family resorts for every budget, we can’t recommend this island wonder enough.
Apart from all that sunbathing on the beach, the kids will love checking out the wildlife especially the elephant orphanages and long walks in lush, green vegetation. While the tranquillity of your hotel or villa might be hard to leave behind, day trips to the colonial city of Galle or a cruise on the Madu Oya river could be just what your little explorers need.
2) An adventurous voyage
If you and your brood are looking for off-beat adventure while going easy on the budget, Kathmandu is perfect in this weather. With the advent of spring and the flowers and mountains in full view, families can enjoy picturesque nature treks and adventure sports.
The majestic Himalayas that cradle the valley can also be experienced in a panoramic flight around the city. The capital of Nepal also boasts of unique historical sites, monasteries ad temples turning your vacation into a discovery of the rich, cultural heritage of the land.
3) A holistic break
If there is one holiday destination that would work for kids of all ages, it would be Cape Town. With Emirates operating two direct flights to this chic city every day, getting here is fairly easy for Dubai residents.
While the younger ones will enjoy swimming with penguins or hitting the picturesque beaches, older kids will love shopping with parents for quirky artefacts or even visiting the largest bird park in Africa. The Aquarium is another highlight, or if you’re seeking an adrenaline rush, you could always hike up the Lion’s Head mountain. Never a dull moment in this city.
4) Island Paradise
After a trip to this tropical paradise for the New Year’s 2017, I can totally vouch for the welcoming, tropical weather and the relaxed vibe that Koh Samui offers to families.
From white sand beaches like Chaweng and LaMai to fishing and from visiting the Big Buddha temple or feeding elephants to swimming in a waterfall, this place has it all. And it helps that this Southern Thailand vacation wonder accommodates travellers of all budgets from luxurious mountain-top villa seekers to simple budget inn guests. And, the icing on the cake is all that delectable food the land offers. No more fussy eaters.
5) A slice of culture
This cultural melting pot is just a 4 and a half-hour flight from Dubai making it ideal for short breaks. With the surprisingly large number of civilizations that have lived on Turkish soil, the remains of their cities and temples are spectacular archaeological ruins that you don’t want to miss. With its irresistible charm for everyone seeking history and culture, Istanbul has a wide array of museums, art, and cultural sites.
The country’s Aegean shoreline offers one of the Mediterranean’s most breath taking backdrops for cruising especially along the Turquoise coast which is named after the aquamarine color of the water. Perfect for those budding photographers in the family to get snapping.
Travel can be such an insightful, life-changing experience, especially in the growing years. So, no matter which of these getaways you decide to embark on, remember to always go with an open mind and a heart full of a desire to embrace that the journey brings.
