Everything we say and do is a blue print of our DNA handed down generation after generation. DNA also known as deoxyribonucleic acid is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. It is the carrier of genetic information (habits, fears, sickness, blocks) passed down from one generation to the next.
Can we change our DNA? It’s probably impossible to do so! So what do we do? We can’t blame our parents because they have inherited their DNA from their parents.
“I believe we chose our parents. Each one of us decides to incarnate (body form) upon this planet at a particular point in time and space. We have chosen to come here to learn a particular lesson that will advance us on our spiritual, evolutionary pathway. We chose our sex, our colour, our country and then we look around for the particular parents who will mirror the pattern we are bringing in to work on in this life time. Then when we grow up, we usually point our fingers accusingly at our parents and whimper “you did this to me”. But really we chose them because they were perfect for what we wanted to work on overcoming in this life time.”….excerpt from the book “You Can Heal Your Life, Louise Hay
If you have a thought that say’s I am a loser, this thought produces a feeling and you buy into the feeling that you are a loser and you will then create experiences over and over again which prove that you are a loser. What is the solution? Change your thoughts. When you change your thoughts, you create new feelings to match your new thoughts which in turn create new experiences.
If you think you are a loser ask yourself who does it belong to? We learn our belief systems as very little children and then we move through life creating experiences to match our beliefs. Look back in your own life and notice how often you have gone through the same experience. Well I believe you have created these experiences over and over because they mirrored something you believed about yourself which was actually something you were told over and over again as a young child till you believed it to be true. Parents constantly compare their children in the same family or with their neighbor’s children which is totally unfair to their child. Each child is different and has their own unique set of gifts and talents.
I was always compared to my younger sister who was brilliant and even though I was smart and intelligent, as far as my parents were concerned, I was not brilliant like my sister so I grew up with the belief that I was average. It was only after I left school and lived in a hostel did I see myself as intelligent and smart and lovable because I was with a different set of people who saw me as I am and reflected these qualities back to me. My thoughts changed, my feelings changed and my experiences changed. Maybe I chose parents who made me feel average, unworthy of their love and praise. I had a choice to be average, to follow my parents’ rules, to chose an average job and live an average life. I decided not to. I decided that their rules don’t apply to me and I became a successful person. I am now an author, a published writer, Life Coach, NLP Practitioner, Theta Healing Teacher & Practitioner, Access Consciousness Practitioner & Facilitator. I do workshops, talk on radio shows and help people heal their past and transform their future.
If your grandmother and mother play victim all the time and are in a constant state of depression, you don’t have to be in depression just because you share the same ancestry. Instead you can look at their lives and figure out how to live your life differently.
If your parents and grandparents have a history of heart strokes, use it as a signal. Read about heart strokes and why they occur and take steps to have a healthy heart by reducing stress and having the right nutrition. The same goes for Diabetes or any other sickness.
There are countless stories of millions of people who changed their lives just by DECIDING that they would be different and worked at it till they changed their blue print of their lives. By changing their life, they handed down an improved DNA to their children. ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ books is a great collection of stories of how ordinary men, women and children beat the odds just because they decided that they would not play victim to their genetics. These people have conquered every sickness imaginable including depression.
Whether it is financial problems, health issues or life in general, you have a choice to change your life because RULES DON’T APPLY. You may not be able to change your DNA but you definitely have choice on how to cope with it. Like I said before, research it, read about it and talk to people who have experienced it and have healed themselves. There are plenty of ways to deal with this through the medical field and metaphysical way. Authors like Deepak Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, Louise Hay, Sadhguru to name a few are a great resource to help you change your life inside out.
If you have teens or adult children tell them about this article. Let them know they do not have to live like you or play victim to their genes and have a choice to live healthy and happy lives.
I remember reading a story about a mother who made the most delicious chicken pot roast. Just before she put the roast into the oven she would cut off the ends. Her husband asked why she did this and she said that her mother did the same. So he told his wife to ask her mother why she cut of the ends of the chicken before she put it into the pot. His wife asked her mother and she said that her mother did the same thing. They then decided to ask her grandmother who was 90 years old. Her grandmother laughed and said that she would cut of the ends of the chicken because their oven was very small and could only hold a small pot. To fit the chicken into the pot she had to cut off the ends. So you see how one habit was passed down three generations which never made any sense whatsoever. It’s the same with beliefs about parenting, money, hygiene, relationships, partners etc. If there is something you do not like in your life, remember you have choice to ask questions and change it.
The only rules that apply to you are Be Happy, Eat Healthy, Laugh Loudly and Love & Accept yourself.
