We accumulate toxins daily from the environment, the food we eat, and the water we drink. Unfortunately, our body’s detoxification organ, the liver, gets overloaded and starts directing these toxins through different elimination sites in our body: the lungs causing respiratory infections, the eyes causing conjunctivitis, the kidneys causing nephritis, the intestines causing infections and bad bacteria overgrowth, the skin causing all sorts of dermatitis conditions, the mouth and throat causing teeth decay and bad breath, and the sexual organs causing infections and damage to the reproductive system. Obviously, there is a great need to support the liver in the detoxification process. Some of the best herbs that can be used are Milk Thistle, Burdock root and Dandelion. These can be used as supplements, prepared as teas, or incorporated in your meals. In addition, other methods exist to support detoxification. In this article, I list three unusual ways to detox your body that you would have never thought about.
The following detox are best done in the morning upon awakening:
Detox 1: Dry skin brushing has immense health benefits such as stimulating your lymphatic system to help eliminate cellular waste products, exfoliating dead skin cells, improving appearance and clearing your clogged pores, increasing circulation which encourages the elimination of metabolic waste, reducing cellulite by softening hard fat deposits below the skin, and reducing daily stress. All you need is a brush with natural bristles and a tub. Before your morning shower, perform brushing in upward motion in the direction of your heart. The best technique to use is by Dr. Bruce Berkowsky. You can watch the video on the proper way to skin brush here: https://greensmoothiegirl.com/articles/healthy-habits/skin-brushing/
Detox 2: Cold showers! Yup, that’s right, as cold as you can get the water! I know many of you will hesitate to try this detox, but trust me you will feel so amazing and refreshed after doing it. You only need to shower between 5 to 10 minutes. I usually do around 5 minutes. After few minutes, you will start feeling a heating sensation as your body begins to work to keep you warm. Cold showers have lots of benefits, such as assisting in fat loss, increase alertness, improve you mood, reduce stress, boost the immune system, speed up muscle recovery, and engage the lymphatic system to drain toxins. You should try it out!
Detox 3: Using clays such as bentonite clay or Moroccan rhassoul clay on your body. Clay binds to toxins and helps eliminate wastes. You will see the difference immediately when you wash out the clay. You can use it on your whole body or specific body parts. Make sure you stay in the tub so you do not create a mess on the floor. It is important to keep hydrated during this process.
Here’s a body clay wrap recipe you can do:
2 cups of clay of your choice
2 cup of herbal powder such as chamomile and lavender
½ cup seaweed powder
1 cup of green tea powder
½ cup sea salt or Epsom salt
To the dry ingredients, add:
2 cups floral water such as rose water
50 ounces distilled water
2 tablespoons coconut oil
12 drops essential oil of your choice
Spread the mixture on your body and stay in tub for around 30 minutes until clay has dried. Wash and apply moisturizer.
